Rage talking directly to the reader in his words.
Sometimes good things come our way unexpectedly, even from dark circumstances. That has happened to me in the context of the stories that Joe Shumock writes. In book four of The Letter Series, someone I cared for very much is lost forever.
An only daughter had been lost to her earlier in Sacrifice of the Lambs, leaving this special individual without family. Though many years had passed since we were last together, this person reached out to me in her time of need. Unlike all the times in the past when I should have gone to her, this time I did. I was finally at her side until the end.
In her last days, unknown to me and with the advice of her attorney, she had arranged to leave her significant assets to me. Suddenly there were ample funds available to do whatever I might want in my waning years. I don’t drink or party and had no desire to retire to a tropical island. With those possibilities out of the running, I decided to continue the type of work I’ve enjoyed since I was a young man.
With the help of some close friends (people you’ve met in Shumock’s Letter Series), I quickly find myself involved in a mystery that reaches to the highest levels of the U.S. government. Book number five, The Last Parade, will find you edging forward in your chair as you wonder what could possibly happen next. Good luck on your guessing.
