Hi, I’m Mike Webster, one of the characters in the Letter Series written by Joe Shumock, Author. I grew up in Semmes, Alabama, and went to school there. Leaving south Alabama was easy since there was really nothing to hold me. I had no close friends because I worked most of the time when I was not in school. One girl (no names, please) tried to be my friend, but I didn’t encourage her. (Probably a mistake on my part—I’ve often wondered.)
After high school, I ended up in Washington D.C. where I found a job at Frankin – Peterson Law Group in Georgetown, Virginia. Actually, the job found me. My landlady brought me on as her assistant.
Diane, the receptionist, was friendly and showed me around Washington during my first months in the city. She was nice and only a couple of years older than me. We became friends—really, just friends. Mr. Frankin, the founding partner of the firm, slowly took me under his guidance. After that, others did too, especially Mrs. Edith Ann Collins. She was the landlady I mentioned earlier.
There were others I will tell you about later. I’m a lucky fellow, and I’m smart enough to know it.
Note – We have changed the method of presentation in this episode of Webster’s backstory, we are going to let him, and the others tell their own stories. We hope you like the change.
