My first several months at Frankin – Peterson Law Group were mostly spent at reasonably menial chores assigned by my immediate boss, Mrs. Edith Ann Collins. I made copies, delivered mail, cleaned up spills, and took out the trash. Though my beginning tasks were simple, they required my getting to know the layout of the firm’s entire set of offices. As a result, I soon knew the names of most of the individuals who worked there. And they knew me.

In the beginning, I was assigned a normal forty-hour, five day a week, work schedule by Mrs. Collins. That was fine for about ten days. Then my teenage work ethic kicked in. Most of those years, I had worked at two or three jobs at a time. And I had tried to do the best work possible in each of the situations.

The result was that when I came to Frankin – Peterson, I was already self-trained to do more than was required. I found it relatively easy because now I was only dealing with a single job at one location. After everything was done, come Friday afternoon, my weekends were usually my own to investigate the interesting city where I had landed after high school.

Diane, the Frankin – Peterson receptionist, became my guide and friend. We were a team in search of an adventure. Few of the museums on the mall escaped our explorations.
